…or in other words, getting Google Assistant to just read out some text when I ask.It may seem trivial but for some reason I couldn’t find anywhere that described a method to get Google Assistant to just read some text without adding its own commentary and the broadcast command that seemed like it might was throwing a “no speakers found” kind of error. All I wanted to do was see if I could get the cat to come when she was called by a digital overlord and it didn’t seem like it would be too hard to give it a try.
- Open the Google Home App
- Hamburger menu>more settings>shortcuts
- Add custom command and set the response to be a text to speech kind of deal.
So how the hell do we get it to REPEAT AFTER ME?
Took a while to get the command right as most pages on the net asserted there was no official documentation of it from Google. A few pages offered basic command lists and then I found some searchable Google documentation that wasn’t supposed to exist. Having those fail I took a punt and nailed the right command.
Still playing with it, but figured I’d post this in case someone else needed it or I forgot how. Now if I could just get some curl or http post/get requests working locally I can attach any automation I want. I’ll keep you posted.
